Estrela Basilica is a basilica and carmelite convent built in the second half of the 18th century and the first one dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was built by demand of Queen Maria I as a fulfilled promise for giving birth to a son. Her tomb can be found here.
It has a giant rococo dome and its interior is mostly pink, grey and yellow marble in geometric patterns. You can also find several paintings by Pompeo Batoni and a famous nativity scene made by sculptor Joaquim Machado de Castro.
