Free: All time
When Chairman Mao died in 1976, a memorial hall was constructed soon after. Despite his wish to be cremated, his remain was embalmed and is now in display in the Soviet-inspired mausoleum. The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is located in the southern side of Tiananmen Square. Entry to it is free, however, expect extremely long queues. Preferably, visit without bringing any bags and cameras. You will have to store these and they charge for this service. Also, remember to bring your passport as you won’t be let into the hall without it.
