Couchsurfing refers to the practice of moving from one friend’s house to another, sleeping in whatever spare space is available. An organization based on this term and concept was founded in 2004 and has since been a platform for travelers to either host or stay with others, for free! Your “couch” differ from place to place, ranging from a personal room to a cave in the desert. Couchsurfing community spreads around the world amongst those believing in the culture and value of hospitality exchange. Membership to the site is also free. While it’s probably unlikely that one can live through life entirely by surfing others’ couches, it’s a good means to travel cheaper and befriend locals at the same time!
