Helpx is a work exchange network started back in 2001. The idea came from Rob Prince, who has traveled over several years throughout Australia and New Zealand. In order to keep travel longer, he started to work in farms and hostels for accommodation and, sometimes, food. Didn’t took longer to realize that it would be useful for both travelers and hosts if he put up an online database of hosts looking for help. It was born helpx!

There’s another website about host and volunteers and I have used this with great success this year a few times in Spain and France: http://www.hovos.com. It’s a not a bad website, although the number of hosts is relatively small, but I like the interface and I had as good as a 100% response rate. While on Wwoof and WorkAway about 50%. Many hosts on these other websites are not interested at all, but they do count them as ‘active hosts’.

Hi Anna,
Thanks for the feedback! We’ll definitely look into Hovos.
