The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston was first founded in 1936 as the Boston Museum of Modern Art Since then it has gone through multiple name changes as well as moving its galleries over 13 times. Today, it sits in the South Boston Seaport District from 2006 onward. Its striking architecture has been celebrated by many critics for its openness, represented by its exterior grand staircase, and willingness to embrace the surrounding harbor. The building also awarded the Harleston Parker Medal as “the most beautiful piece of architecture” in Boston.
