Free: All time
Technically not “free,” the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s admission is a suggested donation of $25. But if you’re tight on budget, know that it is indeed a suggested donation and that you can pay $1 or nothing at all to enter this massive museum. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the United States, and one of the ten largest in the world, with the most significant art collections. Its permanent collection contains more than two million works, divided among seventeen curatorial departments. One can easily spend a whole day in the museum and still don’t get to see the entire collection. But if you do finish, your entrance ticket also grant you the access to The Cloisters Museum and Gardens (a branch of the Met) in northern Manhattan.
