Hatch Shell is an outdoor concert venue on the Charles River Esplanade near downtown Boston. During the summer, pack up a blanket and head on down to it for Friday Night Flicks. The screenings are usually family-friendly movies. See the official website for schedule. On Fourth of July celebration, the Hatch Shell hosts the well-known Boston Pops Orchestra. Furthermore, many free concerts also take place throughout the summer. Perhaps one of the most memorable shows at the venue was in 1994 when Green Day held a free concert and tens of thousands of people showed up.
