The island used to smell of chocolate because it was the site of the Red October Chocolate Factory. Today, the iconic 19th-century red building is home to the hip and artsy. The bohemian island is now permeated with contemporary galleries, trendy restaurants and bars, designer boutiques and happening clubs. It is Moscow’s answer to New York’s East Village and London’s Shoreditch.
