Founded in 1653, Chetham’s Library is the oldest public library in the English speaking world. Furthermore, the building that houses the library is even older, dating from 1421. Until today, Chetham’s Library still provides public access to over 100,000 books free of charge. Located right the middle of Manchester, this medieval complex is quite a view with its stunning grounds and sandstone structure. When in the neighbourhood, also check out the National Football Museum nearby.
