Beitou LibraryFree: All time

Yes, it is a library. But it’s not just any kind of Library. Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch opened in Beitou Park in 2006, and is Taiwan’s first “green” library. Located in the lush green environment of Beitou Park, the magnificent wooden structure is quite a site to see. The library was the first building in Taiwan to receive the certification of “Green Building.” The sloping turf roof preserves humidity and moisture and drains water to recycling troughs. The recycled water is used to water plants and flush toilets. The roof also has a bunch of solar panels to generate electricity in the building. The balcony coverings and perpendicular wood window latticing reduces the entry of thermal radiation into the interior, lowering energy consumption. If none of these impress you, perhaps you’ll be glad to know that there’s free wi-fi in offered in the library. Other free sites worth checking out while in Beitou district: Ketagalan Culture Center, Beitou Geothermal Valley, Plum Garden, Puji Temple, Beitou Quanyuan Park Foot Bath Area and the world-famous Yangmingshan National Park.
