Signal Hill (a.k.a. Lion’s Rump) is a landmark flat-topped hill located next to Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. The hill rewards hikers with spectacular views across Table Bay harbour, the Atlantic Ocean, as well as Cape Town. Since 1902, at the noon of Monday to Saturday, a cannon is fired from Signal Hill. It was originally performed to allow locals to check their watches. The tradition stays on. Visitors are are welcome to watch the ritual from a safe distance.
